Position: Construction Trades Education Teacher

Terms of Employment: Full time 10 Months

Primary Location: Thomasville High School

Salary Range: State Salary Schedule

 

Nature of Work:

Teaches classes to students in the area for which a NC teaching license is held. The employee is required to plan, organize, present instruction and provide safe instructional environments that help students learn the subject matter and skills that will contribute to their educational, social and career development. The employee also assists in other school activities as assigned, and creates a program and environment favorable to learning and personal growth in accordance with each student's career goals.

 

Education Training and Experience Required:

  • NC Teaching Certification – Trade and Industrial Education – Licensure area 74026
  • Bachelor’s degree in area of licensure with two years industry-related work experience within the past five years.
  • Associate’s Degree in the area of licensure with four years industry-related work experience within the past eight years.
  • High School Diploma with six years industry-related work experience within the past 10 years.

 

Certification and Licensure Requirements:

  • OSHA 10-Hour Safety Construction required prior to teaching
  • Must hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License
  • National Center for Construction Education and Research (NCCER)
  • Credentials in Construction Trades (i.e. Architecture, Carpentry, Electrical, HVAC, Masonry and/or Plumbing).
  • Able to complete the 40-hour New Teacher Induction Program approved by the North Carolina Department of Public Instruction, Division of Career and Technical Education.

 

Examples of Related Degrees: Carpentry; Construction Management; Building Construction, Electrician, Electrical Trades, Masonry

 

Examples of Related Work Experience: Construction industry with demonstrated experience in the carpentry, electrical, and/or masonry fields, construction manager, electrician, mason, masonry installer, HVAC Technician, Plumber, previous teaching experience in this content area

 

Physical and Cognitive Responsibilities:

  1. Physical ability to perform all necessary tasks related to implementing the program
  2. The work requires effective communication using speech, vision and hearing.

 

Skills / Abilities:

  • Ability to manage time, meet deadlines, prioritize projects, plan starting and ending deadlines, and successfully bring closure to projects.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability and desire to seek and pass on knowledge to others in an educational/learning environment.
  • Proficiency in common computer desktop applications required.

 

General Knowledge:

  • Knowledge of North Carolina Career & Technical Education Essential Standards.
  • Knowledge of General Statute 115C of the NC State Law concerning Public Education.
  • Knowledge of federal legislation, specifically the Strengthening Career and Technical Education for the 21st Century Act (Carl D. Perkins legislation.)
